AFRA KANE UNEARTHS SINGLE ‘SAME SKY’
ACCLAIMED AND DECORATED SINGER-SONGWRITER/PIANIST LIFTS CURTAIN ON A NEW SINGLE AFTER A TWO AND HALF YEARS HIATUS.
The new single ‘Same Sky’ by Afra Kane was initially meant to just be a poem in Italian, however the artist later decided to turn into a song translating into English. Same Sky aims to not only denounce war, but also highlight our inability as human beings to embrace a vision of unity and equality. With this work, the Afra Kane reminds everyone that there are no 'real' borders, and that, ultimately, we all live under the same sky.
The piece reveals something more intimate and fragile, guided by the spare accompaniment of just Wurlitzer and voice, yet surrounded by a stunning arrangement for strings, flute, and vocals. The orchestration finds its way into the song, transporting it through different genres, including soul, classical and gospel.
The song is directly inspired by Yoko Ono's work "Pieces of Sky.”, an installation inviting visitors to take home a puzzle-piece of a small fragment of an immense sky, contained within a war helmet, symbolising our connection to one another.
